Thirteen years ago, North Fort Myers did not have a newspaper to call its own.
That changed on June 16, 1999, when Breeze Newspapers launched the
North Fort Myers Neighbor, a weekly community newspaper bringing news and
announcing upcoming events taking place in this northern, unincorporated
area of Lee County — often referred to as the 'Gateway to Lee County.'
Since its beginning, the editorial content of the Neighbor has focused on
its mission as a true community newspaper by concentrating its reporting
on local news and events. Readers often call to alert the editorial staff
about upcoming events or happenings down their streets. Story suggestions
and press releases are always welcome.
Stories covered by the Neighbor include road work progress, the efforts of
the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, school news and other local news
and milestones. It also serves as an advertising vehicle that's been
embraced by many local businesses.
In early October of 2005, the Neighbor more than doubled its distribution,
reaching another 12,000 homes. Meanwhile, an increasing number of organizations
— governmental, educational and private — send announcements of happenings,
enhancing local coverage.
